Saturday football - 8th May
A really important weekend and beyond. Some teams have got a fixture list like the number 16 bus, so injuries and fatigue are likely to play a part. Newcastle’s walloping of Leicester on Friday has opened things up nicely in the Champions League spots.

LEEDS UNITED vs TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR (1230 ko)
Well done, Leeds, you managed a nice, comfortable mid-table finish in your first season back among the elite. Now let’s see what you can do against rudderless opposition. Come on, you Whites or whatever you’re called. Draw.

SHEFFIELD UNITED vs CRYSTAL PALACE (1500)
The pressure’s off for both these sides and only pride remains at stake. Draw.

MANCHESTER CITY vs CHELSEA (1730)
The Etihad plays host for what’s scheduled to be in store in Istanbul. A Citeh win will seal the Premier League title for the hosts, and would be more than welcome elsewhere. Chelsea under Tuchel have gained discipline and are hard – but not impossible – to beat. They also have a goal difference of +22 before today, compared to our +11. Home win. 12-0.

LIVERPOOL vs SOUTHAMPTON (2015)
Liverpool are coming fast up the rails, but even with their game in hand we still have a point advantage over them. The Saints are effectively safe, but Hassenhutl will still want to see his team play for their places next term. Home win.

*SUNDAY*

WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS vs BRIGHTON & HOVE ALBION (1200)
A largely meaningless game in the lower reaches of mid-table. Draw.

ASTON VILLA vs MANCHESTER UNITED (1405)
With Man U virtually certain of being 2020/21 runners-up, there’s little again to play for here. Expect Villa to be summarily despatched. Home win.

WEST HAM UNITED vs EVERTON (1630)
Despite some encouraging recent successes, Everton have turned the tables on us so often in the past that many people will approach this with due optimism laced with a hefty dose of trepidation. At their best, which to be fair has been rare this season, the Toffees are a class act. They’re effectively out of the running for a European finish, but retain nuisance value and will hope that a win today may put them back in the mix. Three points and a superb performance against Burnley puts us in the driving seat – the more so with the highly positive vibes coming from the club. Antonio is a constant threat, while Benrahma’s efforts last week suggest his talents are peaking at just the right time. This game is reportedly to early for Declan Rice, although he’s back in training. A win today won’t put us back into the top four, but it will get Chelsea and Leicester looking over their shoulders big time. Home win.

ARSENAL vs WEST BROMWICH ALBION (1900)
An Arsenal win will see the Baggies formally relegated. But Arsenal wins don’t happen so often these days and failure to beat the hapless Baggies will get Arteta talking to his agent about next moves. Home win.

*MONDAY*

FULHAM vs BURNLEY (2000)
By kick-off Fulham could be all but mathematically relegated – if that’s not already a fait accompli. Burnley were poor last week and regardless of what happens in the next couple of weeks, Scott Parker will want to depart the Premier League with head held high. Home win.

*TUESDAY*

MANCHESTER UNITED vs LEICESTER CITY (1800)
Leicester are navigating the end of season doldrums, and they aren’t doing a very good job of it. Assuming Man U saw off Villa on Sunday, there’s little more for them to lose. Apart from games of football. Home win.

SOUTHAMPTON vs CRYSTAL PALACE (2015)
Wholly meaningless. Home win.

*WEDNESDAY*

CHELSEA vs ARSENAL (2015)
It’s hard to see Arsenal picking up anything here. It’s all about damage limitation for them now. Home win.

Liverpool just need a point and to win the last three games that should be easy against opposition that are relegated or have zero to play for. Man U have 2 games this week of which Liverpool is the second. Thinking Liverpool pull that off at least a point especially if the title is gone by then.

It’s Liverpool who need to catch us.
If ManU beat Liverpool it’s in our hands to finish above them.

Funny with Fulham that as soon as they had a run and got back into contention and people started talking about them surviving ..... they fell off a cliff
After they won at Liverpool in March they haven't won since.

Not scored enough & concede too many soft goals. That spells relegation

I still think Antonee Robinson of Fulham would be a good buy as left back

Good riddance to the oaf and the WBA.

Shame Fulham go, but otherwise I’ll not be losing sleep over the relegated teams this year and have no sympathy for the clubs that drop.

Disappointing to see Big Sam relegated
Was hoping he'd hang on for another couple of games so that WE could deliver the fatal blow.

If they'd given Bilic the money Fatty got in January in the summer they would have had a fair chance of staying up.
Think they just turned some of their last season loans permanent (like Diangana) and effectively started with a Championship team.

Some small consolation today with Big Sam going down. Nice to see his ‘record’ go. Was it worth replacing Slav?
Still their forums seem to be blaming recruitment. Sorry boys, no return slips in the PL.

nychammer that time when we last beat Brighton, was that the time when the Great Vaz Te scored a hat trick against them?

May be this is an omen on leading to "greater things".

Hammer-ed 5:38 Sun May 9
Re: Saturday football - 8th May
nychammer looks like the time is right since the likes of Dunk was their set piece specialist ( from which he scored today) and he had the highest amount "play break up" "last man tackle/ interceptions" and "line clearances".His suspension should leave a a big vacuum in that Brighton team.

Manuel 5:36 Sun May 9
Re: Saturday football - 8th May
Can see what Fraser is saying, if Manu can still math win the league how can they do anything other than their best to win the game.
